President’s Message
Welcome to
The Friends of Kinder Farm Park’s inaugural newsletter. The
Friends of Kinder Farm Park have been doing some exciting and
fun things so far this year. We have, along with the Kinder Farm
4H Live Stock club, participated in 2 Parades, the Glen Burnie
Memorial Day Parade, and the Severna Park 4th of July
Parade. We had 2 volunteer cookouts, Fox 45 Free Friday Flick,
Saw Mill addition, Saw Mill demonstrations, construction of new
hay ride wagons and the installation of a bubbler system in Duck
Pond to provide oxygen for the fish during the hot dry summer
season to name a few.
None of
this would have been possible without the fabulous support of
our Park Superintendent, our hard working Park Rangers, our hard
working Maintenance Staff, and most of all, the many hours our
volunteers have contributed.
Why not
join? It’s fun to be a member of an organization with such a
great support structure. Our Board of Directors, and Friends of
Kinder Farm Park volunteers make this a fun organization to
belong to!.
The main
event for Kinder Farm Park, Fall Harvest Festival, will be held
on October 13th.
That is
just around the corner. Please volunteer and have Fun with us.
Hope to
see you around the Farm.
Sincerely,
Tom
Lahdelma
President
Friends of
Kinder Farm Park.

Kinder
Farm Park 4-H Livestock Club is very busy this month! On
Saturday, August 11th, the 4-H members presented
their animal projects to the public, at the Meet and Greet.
Ranger Josh Hardy was coordinating this activity, and the public
went around to each animal, to touch, ask questions, interact,
and have fun! The 4-H members guided, and informed them about
the cows, turkeys, Boer goats, chickens, pigs, and all the other
sheep and goats. Julianna Corby, our club president, gave a
“speech” on the responsibilities of being in 4-H and how to
join. We recruited several people to join our club. Everyone
had a wonderful time! Another activity that the 4-Hers
participated in was the “miniature show” that we performed for
the Friends group, on Thursday, August 16th. The 4-H
members wore their show clothes, which consisted of boots, khaki
pants, a white polo, and a 4-H “tie”. We displayed our animals
in front of the Friends group and set our animals in show
stance; while another 4-H member read a card that we wrote
information about our animals, and why we wanted to join 4-H.
After the show, we all met down in the pavilion, and ate
hotdogs, hamburgers, and desserts. It was a beautiful night,
and we all enjoyed sharing information about our animals to
other people. On another note, some of the 4-H members are
getting ready to go to the Maryland State Fair, in Timonium,
which starts on August 24th, and ends on September 3rd.
Another fair that our 4-Hers
are preparing their animals for is the Anne Arundel County Fair,
in Crownsville. This fair starts on September 12th, and ends on
September 16th. Besides showing our animals, our
club members are participating in
photography, banners, contests,
and displays. We will soon be loading up the cows, pigs,
turkeys, chickens, rabbit, sheep and goats, to have a good time
at the fair…We hope to see you there!
